We can quickly get frustrated by the overload of theory and concepts that are presented to us, which could lead to mechanical and sterile improvisation. It takes dedication and time to express yourself in a musical way using all the possibilities.

A time ago Pat Martino found a shortcut to overcome this problem of complexity by converting everything to minor and in this way drastically simplifying Jazz improvisation. Don’t be mislead by the word “simplifying”, because the result is nothing less than a mature and rich Jazz sound.

Pat Martino called his way of thinking “Minor Conversions” and described this in his book “Linear Expressions” that was published in 1989 and is since considered as a unique approach to modern Jazz improvisation.

In this e-book you’ll learn about Pat Martino, his concept and how to apply minor conversions to improvise over chord changes.
