As we start exploring chord progressions in different genres of music like Fusion and Progressive Rock we come to a point where we want to create these special sophisticated sounds ourselves.
Exploring Jazz guitar and Jazz chords for guitar is a very good start, but Fusion drifts away from Jazz in the sense that it doesn’t always comply to conventional music theory and rules. In Fusion everything goes really. In this e-book I will show one of the techniques to sound modern and Fusion a-like.
For that we’ll use just one chord: the maj7b5 chord. By superimposing this chord over different bass notes in a educated way we’ll get very beautiful and very typical Fusion and Progressive Rock sounds that are used to create a modern sound.
These superimpositions of the maj7b5 chord can be used in all kind of situations. Use them to create a modern sounding ii-V-I or for impressionist soundscapes. It will work in both scenarios amazingly well.
