In the past, a few power chords in a 4/4 time signature were enough to create an epic rock song, but things have changed dramatically—and for the better. Musical styles are no longer confined to rigid categories but are instead the result of a fusion of different genres. Chords and progressions that were once exclusive to jazz are now commonplace in progressive rock and metal.

This genre has evolved into a far more sophisticated style, characterised by complex rhythms, intricate harmonies, and an extreme display of virtuoso guitar playing. Consider bands such as Plini, Intervals, Animals as Leaders, Periphery, Scale the Summit, and Haken, for instance. These new sounds are nothing short of fascinating.
